How Would You Fuel Your Body For The Winter Games?
Starting February 9 the world’s largest sports event will be taking place in South Korea! The countdown will soon begin for us, the viewers, but for the 3,000 athletes (from 110 nations) who have been preparing for these games, the countdown started so much earlier! By choosing the correct foods to help fuel their bodies, they will be able to push their bodies past their own limits and hopefully past their goals. When in sports of any kind much stress is put on our body, so we need to fuel it with good carbs (complex carbohydrates) to give us the energy to continue on for longer periods of time.
When we choose bad carbs (simple carbohydrates) we feel tired very quickly as the sugar is digested quickly into our body. If this isn’t used up right away for energy then it gets stored as fat. Foods that you want to stay away from are generally processed foods which have had the natural nutrients taken away.
GOOD CHOICES: Whole Grain Breads, Bran Cereals, Green Vegetables, Fresh Fruits (with the skin on if possible!)
BAD CHOICES: Candy & Desserts, Sugared Cereals, White Bread, Sodas & Sugary Drinks
